ABOUT SEGASONIC RADIO
SEGASonic Radio is a video game themed Internet radio station that plays Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Team and SEGA music. It was established in 2001 by founder of The Sonic Stadium, 'Dreadknux'. At this time the Internet was experiencing a multimedia boom, yet the station barely enjoyed success partly due to its rather cack name 'Sonic Groove Choons FM'. In Summer 2001, The Sonic Stadium had a brand new design change, and along with it came a rebranding of the Sonic Groove Choons FM station into SEGASonic Radio. Its popularity rose and helped build a visitor base for The Sonic Stadium (along with the first Sonic Site Awards) but it was not long before a mini-site was built especially for 'SSR'. It was at this point where the station began to get recognised. SSR was kindly offered hosting by the 'Zone Radio Network, where it still sits today as the most popular station on the service. In 2001, there were many stations that were dedicated to the same theme - it was decided in 2002 for the Network to drop SEGASonic Radio in favour of fellow station 'Sonic Spin', maintained by a 'ZRN administrator. SSR did not resurface again until two years later. 2004 saw the decision by Dreadknux to revive the SEGASonic Radio idea, but without the support of 'ZRN a new concept was born. Winamp Shoutcasts were used to broadcast regular live shows by selected DJs to listeners. Its schedule was erratic but the audience seemed to appreciate the live broadcasting, as such a thing had never been done before in the community on such a scale. The term "LiVECAST" was coined by Dreadknux and has been the exclusive term for live broadcasts on SEGASonic Radio ever since. Shortly after, Sonic Spin's administrator announced his retirement from radio maintenance, and 'ZRN was looking for a new station leader. Dreadknux proposed to revive SEGASonic Radio to the Network, allowing for a name change of the station, and the administration agreed. The Shoutcast-specific LiVECAST station was merged with the 'ZRN streamers and an additional high-quality 'FM' channel was created to promote the station and Network further. Since 2004, maintenance of SEGASonic Radio has been passed to many people as Dreadknux found no time to look after it. SpawnofSonic, from FastFeet Media was the first leader, followed by FastFeet in January 2006 on his retirement. April 2006 saw an Australian duo command the radio; Hawkz and Spiky Shark. Spiky Shark retired shortly after, and Hawkz took full responsibility until May 2007. Summer 2007 saw Roarey_Raccoon, previously a LiVECAST DJ, get promoted to new station leader of SEGASonic Radio and the fifth Anniversary of SEGASonic Radio. We hope you will continue to enjoy SSR as we have enjoyed providing you with Sonic tunes and entertaining live programming. Five years on, SEGASonic Radio has a bright future... AWARDS AND STUFF
